Kanrul Islam, a resident Guwahati, has been gripped by anxiety after his son's name was not there in the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) NRC list published on Saturday.

Over 19 lakh people have been left out of the final NRC list that was published on Saturday morning.

"We are a total of four family members but there were only three names in the first NRC list. Then we got a notice for my younger son, whose name was missing from the list. The authorities had asked us to submit the documents with links and we submitted that. Then we were told that his name would be included in the second list," Kanrul Islam told .

"His name was not included in the second list as well. I visited the office thrice to provide them with proper documents but his name has not been included in the final list as well," he added.

Like Kanrul Islam's son, those left out of the list will get an opportunity to file an appeal within 120 days in the Foreigners' Tribunal (FT) according to directions of Home Ministry.

The final list of NRC in Assam was published on Saturday which excluded over 19 lakh people. Over three crore people have been found eligible for inclusion in the final NRC, according to Prateek Hajela, State Coordinator of the NRC.

When the draft NRC was published on July 30, 2018, there was a controversy over the exclusion of 40.7 lakh people from it.
