Assam Assembly Elections 2026: Union Minister Amit Shah Holds Roadshow in Guwahati (Watch Video)
Ahead of Assam Assembly elections, union Home Minister Amit Shah held a massive roadshow in Guwahati on Saturday. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) intensified its Assam Assembly election campaign, drawing huge crowds. Shah's roadshow saw enthusiastic participation with supporters lining the streets. Shah acknowledged the support by showering flower petals, energizing party workers as political campaigning gains momentum in the state.
Polling for all 126 Assembly constituencies will be held in a single phase on April 9, while the counting of votes is scheduled for May 4, the Election Commission of India announced. Assam's BJP government, under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, seeks a third term, challenged by Congress's bid to regain power. Sarma will contest from Jalukbari. Meanwhile, in Kolkata, Amit Shah criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and presented the BJP's chargesheet against the TMC government.

Shah accused Banerjee of using "victim card" politics, claiming she repeatedly uses this tactic to gain sympathy during elections, a strategy the people of Bengal now understand. West Bengal's two-phase election will be held on April 23 and 29, with results for both Assam and Bengal announced on May 4.
