Assam MLA Samsul Huda has come under fire after a video of him assaulting a man at a foundation stone-laying ceremony went viral on social media. The incident took place in Dhubri district’s East Bilasipara Assembly constituency on Tuesday.

Huda, a member of Badruddin Ajmal's All India United Democratic Front, was invited to cut the ribbon for the ceremony. Two banana plants had been placed at the site with a pink ribbon tied between them for the inauguration. When Huda saw the pink ribbon, he became visibly angry and questioned why a red ribbon had not been used.

In a sudden outburst, Huda grabbed a man by the collar and slapped him. He then uprooted both banana plants and began hitting the man with them. The man, identified as Sahidur Rahman, is reportedly a colleague of the bridge contractor.

There have been no reports of police action in connection with the incident. The video has since gone viral and many condemning Huda’s actions. The reason behind the assault — the color of the ribbon — has left people outraged.
