Bengaluru Metro has announced a revision of its recent fare hike in response to public backlash, with reductions of up to 30 percent set to take effect immediately. Maheshwar Rao, Managing Director of Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), stated that the board had reviewed the public feedback and decided to scale back the steep fare increases at certain points.

Addressing the issue, Rao stated, “We have received basic feedback from the public. Both the board and we held meetings yesterday and this morning, where we thoroughly discussed the fare fixation committee's suggestions. Based on these discussions, the board has decided to incorporate some of the suggestions and make adjustments to the fares that had increased abnormally at certain points.”

He further assured that the revision would offer relief to a large number of metro users. “We are aiming to reduce the fares, and hopefully, this will bring relief to an estimated 30-45% of passengers who have expressed concerns over the abnormal fare increases,” he said.

Rao confirmed that a 30% reduction in the revised fare structure would be implemented starting today. He said that passenger interests are a priority, with final decisions made based on the fare fixation committee's suggestions. “Our board operates in the best interest of passengers, he stated.
