India reported 38,079 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, as per the health ministry’s July 17 update. There has been less than one lakh new coronavirus cases for the last 39 days.

As many as 560 new deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, new recoveries at 43,916 in the same period, the July 17 update stated. 

Among states, Uttar Pradesh administered the most (cumulative) vaccine doses at 3.99 crore, followed by Maharashtra at 3.88 crore and Gujarat at 2.90 crore.

The active cases have now come down below 5 lakh. India now has 4,24,025 active cases as per the July 17 update. The active cases constitute 1.36 per cent of the total cases.

Kerala has the highest number of active cases at 1,22,436 in the country followed by Maharashtra at 1,04,647, Karnataka at 31,422, Tamil Nadu at 29,230 and Andhra Pradesh at 24,854.

Maharashtra reported the most 167 new deaths, as per the July 17 update, followed by Kerala (130), Odisha (64), Tamil Nadu (46) and Karnataka (42). 

Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli/Daman and Diu, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Ladakh, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan did not report any deaths today.

The total recoveries in India now stand over 3,02,27,792 with the recovery rate at 97.31 percent, as per the health ministry’s July 17 update. 

Total COVID-19 deaths in India now stand at 4,13,091 as per July 17 update. The mortality rate is now at 1.33 percent.

India commenced its COVID-19 vaccination drive on January 16 this year. Till date, 39,96,95,879 vaccine doses have been administered so far including 42,12,557 in the last 24 hours, under the nationwide vaccination drive.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, 44,20,21,954 samples have been tested up to July 16 for Covid-19. Of these, 19,98,715 samples were tested on Friday.
