Kashmir Fire: Blaze Broke Out at Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Qazigund; Two Firefighters Injured

A major fire broke out at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Qazigund on February 3. The fire damaged a portion of the school building. Two firefighting personnel were injured in this incident while they were dousing the blaze. The District Fire Control Room Qazigund at around 8:38 am. After the District Fire Control Room was informed, the fire tenders from the local fire stations immediately reached the spot, and an operation was launched to control the fire.

In this incident, parts of the double-storey, L-shaped structure with a GCI sheet roof were damaged. The roof and ceiling areas were damaged too. Officials stated that timely intervention by the fire department prevented the flames from spreading inside the school premises.

In this incident, the two firefighters who were injured are identified as Fireman Muzaffar Ahmad Wani and Fireman Driver Waseem Mehraj Shah. Both firemen were posted at the Fire and Emergency Services Qazigund. The injured personnel were immediately admitted to a medical facility for treatment, the officials said.

The firefighting operation was spearheaded by the Station Officer of the Qazigund fire station and conducted under the guidance of senior officials, with continuous monitoring until the situation was fully brought under control. Fire and emergency teams worked swiftly to prevent the blaze from spreading and to ensure the safety of the premises. Officials stated that the exact cause of the fire has not yet been established, and a detailed investigation has been initiated to determine how the incident occurred. Fortunately, no casualties were reported among students or staff, as the fire broke out during the morning hours when prompt action could be taken.
