According to the Goa Police, Bamniya has a long criminal history and was evading arrest for several years. After completing documentation and a mandatory medical examination at the local police station, the Goa Police team began transporting the accused to court for transit remand. However, while the police vehicle was en route, it was suddenly surrounded by a group of assailants. The attackers, many of whom were reportedly associates or supporters of the accused, attempted to disrupt the transit process.
Police said the mob attacked the police vehicle in an apparent attempt to help Bamniya escape custody. Stones were hurled at the vehicle, and the officers were assaulted, resulting in injuries to some personnel. Despite the attack, the accused remained securely in police custody. The Madhya Pradesh Police promptly stepped in and provided additional security, allowing the Goa Police team to return safely. An FIR has been registered, and efforts are underway to identify and arrest those involved in the attack, Goa Police said.
