A Maharashtra cadre IPS officer on Wednesday announced his decision  to quit his government service in protest against the Citizenship (Amendment Bill) which he states is against the basic feature of the Constitution.  Abdur Rahman who is currently posted in Mumbai wrote on his Twitter,  "This Bill is against the religious pluralism of India. I request all justice loving people to oppose the bill in a democratic manner. It runs against the very basic feature of the Constitution."

For the unversed, The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill seeks to make easier for non-muslims migrants from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh who entered the country before 2015 to become Indian citizens. The Rajya Sabha on Wednesday approved the Bill, which was passed by Lok Sabha on Monday. Abdur Rahman stated that he won't be coming to office from Thursday.
