The NAD is a central government initiative to provide all academic credentials of an individual online. At present, many academic institutions and boards, including IIT Roorkee, IIM Kolkata, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), have joined the platform.

In a letter to the directors, registrars and principals of the technical colleges and institutions, AICTE Chairman Anil D Sahasrabudhe has asked them to take measures to join NAD on or before September 2019.

Citing the directive of Human Resource Minister last month, the AICTE Chairman has said "All technical educational institutions should come on-board with NAD before September 2019".

He has directed all the affiliated, deemed as well as autonomous institutions to join the platform.

"AICTE desires that all approved institutions affiliated to a university/deemed to be university and standalone PGDM/PGCA institutes should come onboard with NAD in consultation with their affiliating university wherever required.

"The autonomous/TEQlP institutions having academic autonomy should also come onboard in consultation with their affiliating University with NAD on or before September 2019," he said.

Explaining the benefits of the platform, he said that NAD has been established to ensure a 24x7 digital and safe electronic storehouse of all academic awards including certificates, degrees, diplomas, mark sheets etc. It allows the academic institutions/school boards to lodge and upload the academic awards which are authenticated and validated.

The NAD consists of two inter-operable digital depositories viz. CDSL Ventures Limited (CVL) and NSDL Database Management Limited (NDML).
