Scientists at the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune are studying how corona infection occurs even after taking one or both doses of the coronavirus vaccine.Several samples were tested for this study. This included the Delta variant of the Corona. Variants that were also included were Alpha, Kappa, Delta AY One (Delta Plus) and Delta AY2.
"Even though the delta variant is currently causing infections throughoutr the world, one important piece of information that has come to light is that even if a patient is infected with the delta variant after receiving the anti-corona vaccine, vaccination offers more than 99% protection against death," said Dr Yadav.
A total of 53 samples collected from different parts of Maharashtra and were tested in March and June. At least 181 samples were studied from Karnataka and 10 from West Bengal. "According to the study, only 9.8 per cent of the total patients infected with the Delta variant have been admitted to the hospital after being vaccinated. The death rate was only 0.4 per cent. This shows that anti-corona vaccination is very important in preventing a patient from going to the hospital and dying, "the report said.
The study included a majority of young patients. Samples from patients aged 31 to 56 were examined. The average age was 44. It involved 65.1 percent of men and 71 percent of patients with one or more symptoms. Symptoms include fever (69%), body aches, nausea, cough, and sore throat. Although corona infection has been reported after ttaking covid jab, it is less likely that a patient will be hospitalized or die, as has been the case in Britain, Israel and Canada.
NIV scientists are constantly monitoring the condition of patients infected with the Delta variant even after taking the covid vaccine. “Such monitoring will help us to understand the need to adequately tweak the available vaccines and also develop new vaccines with enhanced potential to protect against variant strains of SARS-CoV-2,” said Dr Yadav.
