Mango Season 2025: Devgad Mango Growers Introduce Barcode System to Stop Counterfeit Sales

Navi Mumbai: The Devgad Taluka Mango Growers' Cooperative Society has introduced a barcode system to combat the fraudulent sale of Karnataka mangoes under the prestigious Devgad Hapus name. This initiative allows buyers to verify authenticity and ensures they receive genuine Devgad Hapus mangoes, protecting both consumers and the brand’s reputation.

With mango season in full swing, the Mumbai APMC market in Vashi has received its first batch of barcode-labeled Devgad Hapus mangoes. On Thursday, 200 dozen such mangoes arrived, marking the beginning of a fraud-proof system for buyers.

Renowned for its rich aroma and unparalleled taste, Devgad Hapus is highly sought after in India and abroad. However, fraudulent traders often repackage mangoes from Karnataka and other states in Devgad Hapus-branded boxes, misleading consumers who rely solely on packaging.

To tackle this issue, the cooperative society has launched a barcode verification system. Each authentic Devgad Hapus mango will now feature a unique barcode sticker that consumers can scan to access detailed information about its origin and quality.

To ensure widespread adoption, the society has distributed five million barcode stickers across the Devgad region. This initiative makes it easier for consumers to distinguish genuine mangoes from counterfeits.

“This barcode system is a game-changer,” said Sanjay Pansare, Director of the Fruit Market. “Now, buyers can easily verify if they are purchasing real Devgad Hapus mangoes, ensuring complete transparency in the market.”
