BMC Clarifies: Drain Desilting Tenders Were Transparent and Fair
Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a clarification denying allegations of irregularities in the tender process for desilting major drains across the city. The civic body asserted that the process was conducted transparently and as per established norms.
According to the BMC, tenders were invited for desilting work in six out of seven zones for the years 2025 and 2026. The bids submitted by contractors were opened on February 28 and March 1, 2025, and a thorough verification of documents confirmed their eligibility.
During the initial bidding process, contractors quoted rates 3.90% to 10% higher than the estimated cost. However, following negotiations on March 6, 2025, the rates were revised, with reductions ranging from 3% above to 20% below the original quotes. The tenders were subsequently awarded based on the revised rates.
The BMC emphasized that complete transparency was maintained throughout the process and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring accountability in all civic projects.
