The Ulwe Coastal Road project, which will serve as a crucial link between the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) and the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), is progressing at a rapid pace. The road will first connect Amra Marg, near the upcoming NMIA, to the MTHL junction in Shivaji Nagar, Ulwe.

The 5.8 km six-lane road, along with an additional 1.2 km elevated link, will provide seamless access to the proposed international airport in Navi Mumbai. The project faced several hurdles, including obtaining environmental clearances for diverting 32.6921 hectares of forest land. However, the Regional Empowered Committee (REC) under the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change approved CIDCO’s proposal, clearing the way for construction.

To mitigate environmental impact, CIDCO has implemented measures such as constructing the road on stilts in sensitive areas and committing to compensatory afforestation. Design modifications have increased the project's estimated cost to Rs 1,400 crore, with completion targeted for early 2026. This road will serve as a vital link between the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) and Navi Mumbai International Airport.

Vehicles traveling from South Mumbai via MTHL will be able to reach Navi Mumbai Airport directly through the Ulwe Coastal Road without obstacles. Work near Targhar station on the Nerul/Belapur-Uran route is progressing rapidly, with the road set to cross over Amra Marg to reach the airport.

Additionally, a 9.5 km coastal road from Belapur to Kharghar is in the tendering stage. This project will be developed in two phases and will eventually connect to the Nerul Jetty, constructed by CIDCO near the NRI Complex.
