Noted Bollywood production designer Nitin Chandrakant Desai was found dead in his studio in Maharashtra's Raigad district, the police said on Wednesday. Desai died by suicide at the age of 58, according to officials.
Nitin Desai is known for designing lavish sets for some of the blockbuster films such as 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam', 'Devdas', 'Jodha Akbar', and 'Lagaan', among others.
Nitin Desai is also the owner of ND Studios where he was found hanging, a film and television production facility in Karjat.
The Studio is spread over 52 acres (210,000 m2) and was opened in 2005 and offers indoor as well as outdoor shooting options.
In 2008, US-based movie studio 20th Century Fox signed a 10-year deal to hire four floors at ND Studios.
Spread over 52 acres (21 ha), Reliance Entertainment picked up 50 per cent stake in the studio for about Rs 1.50 billion. After this stake sale, the Studio was officially known as "Big ND Studio". Art Work, Production, Post-Production, Set Design, Set Production are some of the key services offered by the studio.
Over the years, it has also become a popular tourist destination, as it is a 90-minute drive from Mumbai, Maharashtra
Apart from films, it is also the location reality TV series, Bigg Boss hosted by Salman Khan.
When on a visit to the ND Studio, one should take up the studio tour during which tourists will see sets, costumes, and props used in the films. One will learn about the technical side of creating one of the most successful film series of all time, with insight into the special effects and animatronics.
ND Studios is located at Hatnoli village near Chowk. To reach here. one can take a bus or a taxi from anywhere in the city.
