WHO describes Dexamethasone as life saving drug for critically ill COVID-19 patients

The World Health Organization has welcomed the initial findings of trial drug Dexamethasone for coronavirus treatment the drug was tested on about 2,000 patients from Oxford University in the UK.

According to the trial, the drug has saved the lives of many coronavirus patients. Dexamethasone is the first drug to save the lives of COVID-19 patients according to scientists.

The UK government has approved the drug dexamethasone to treat patients infected with coronavirus which is tested, approved and affordable.

'Wherever possible and appropriate, the drug should be given to hospitalized patients without any delay,' said Martin Landre, head professor of the research team but people should not buy and eat this medicine themselves.

The drug Dexamethasone is particularly beneficial to people on ventilators and oxygen support but there is no evidence that patients with mild symptoms benefit from this drug.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanum Ghebrieus said: 'This is the first drug to reduce the mortality rate of people living on oxygen and ventilator support. This is very good news. I UK Government, Oxford University and others.

During the trial of this drug, it was found that the risk of death was reduced by one-third when patients on a ventilator were given the drug. Patients who needed an oxygen supply had their risk of death reduced by 1/5.

Scientists estimate that the drug could have saved 5,000 lives if the drug had already been made available in Britain as it is affordable to the common man.

Peter Horby, chief scientific professor at the British trial, said it was the only drug that had succeeded in reducing mortality which is a positive sign.

Chief Scientist Pvt said, drug is saving the lives of one in eight patients on a ventilator, Martin Landrey was quoted as saying by the research. One in every 20 to 25 patients with the same oxygen support is being saved.
