Wedding season is just around the corner and if you want to buy some gorgeous silk sarees, then you must have these beautiful sarees that are the hallmark of South India.

The Kanjeevaram saree from Tamil Nadu is a fine Garbrashmiya silk. Also known as the Bridal Silk Saree in South India, it is a popular choice for brides. With a history spanning over 400 years, the saree is uniquely crafted by separately weaving the 'padar' (body) and 'kad' (border), which are then joined together with a zigzag pattern called 'pitani'.

Dharmavaram silk sarees, a hallmark of Andhra Pradesh, are primarily woven in Dharmavaram, Anantapur district. Renowned for their unique weaving technique, diverse colors, and exquisite craftsmanship, these sarees are characterized by their generous size and vibrant hues. Authentic Dharmavaram silk sarees feature a distinctive two-color weave, creating a dual-tone effect.

Uppada silk sarees, originating from Andhra Pradesh and popular throughout India, are considered a modern form of Jamdani saree. Known for their intricate zari work, these lightweight sarees are available in silk or cotton silk, and feature soft yarn. The weaving technique is believed to have originated in Bangladesh. While initially made only of cotton, Uppada sarees later incorporated silk threads, along with gold and silver zari.

Mysore silk is emblematic of Karnataka. These sarees, also available in cotton silk blends, feature narrow borders and a delicate bow design. A simple test for authenticity involves placing water droplets on the fabric; genuine Mysore silk will not absorb the water.

Garhwal silk, originating in Jogulamba Garhwal, Telangana, India, boasts a 200-year history. Queen Adhilakshmi Devamma fostered the art of local weavers, leading to the saree's creation. Initially known as 'Mathiyampeta,' it later gained prominence as Garhwal.
