Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has arrived for the Budget 2023-24 presentation at the Parliament House and, this time, re-iterating her love for simple yet elegant handloom sarees, has donned a red silk saree with a black and gold border detailing. Keeping it minimalist, she paired it with a gold pendant.

Nirmala Sitharaman also carried the modern ‘Bahi-Khata‘ (ledger) tablet in a traditional pouch made of red cloth with the Government of India’s logo, similar to what she carried last year.

Before reaching Parliament, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman called on President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

For the first time in 2021, a completely paperless digital budget was presented in Parliament in the wake of the Corona pandemic. The tradition of printing a copy of the budget has been discontinued.

Nirmala Sitharaman ended the tradition from the British era as soon as she took over as finance minister. Until 2019, the budget was presented in a briefcase or a suitcase. Nirmala Sitharaman came to Parliament in 2019 with budget papers in a red cloth bag instead of a briefcase.
