Floods wreck havoc in Gujarat 61, feared dead

The situation has worsened in Gujarat due to torrential rains and floods in several districts. The meteorological department has forecast torrential to heavy rains in Dang, Navsari and Valsad districts of south Gujarat in the next five days.

The situation in Gujarat has become critical due to the rains that have been continuing for the last 48 hours. Rivers in Chhota Udaipur and Narmada districts are flooded.

A team of NDRF and SDRF is working at the spot. Meals have been arranged for the displaced. In Gujarat, 61 people have died so far in the monsoon. It is learned that 272 animals were killed due to heavy rains.

In Chhota Udaipur district, part of the bridge collapsed due to incessant rains. According to meteorologists, Bodeli taluka in Chota Udaipur received 433 mm of rain in just 12 hours till 6 pm on Sunday, causing flooding in low lying areas.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a telephone conversation with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel after seeing the deteriorating situation in Gujarat due to floods.

According to the Gujarat Chief Minister's Office, Prime Minister Modi was apprised of the dire situation created by the torrential rains in the state. Chief Minister Patel briefed Prime Minister Modi on the situation in the state in the last 48 hours.
