"Will not allow Babri Masjid on Bengal soil": Amit Shah slams Mamata Banerjee

Dakshin Dinajpur (West Bengal) [India], April 14 : Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday launched a blistering attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, asserting the party's firm stance against the construction of Babri Masjid in Murshidabad.

Amit Shah alleged that Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP) founder Humayun Kabir, who has vowed to construct Babri Masjid in Murshidabad, is an "agent" of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and following the latter's "signal".

Addressing a rally in Gangarampur, Amit Shah said, "Didi (Mamata Banerjee) wants to build a Babri Masjid here by keeping Humayun Kabir by her side. Didi, the BJP government is coming to Bengal, and we will not allow Babri Masjid to be built on the soil of Bengal."

"Humayun Kabir is Didi's own agent, and on Didi's signal, he is building the Babri Masjid, but Didi, your time is up. The BJP government is coming here, and a Babri Masjid cannot be built here," he added.

Humayun Kabir was expelled from TMC over the Babri Masjid controversy. Later, he formed the Aam Janata Unnayan Party, vowing to contest against the TMC and the BJP in the poll-bound West Bengal.

Later, Amit Shah addressed a rally in Malda where he slammed Mamata Banerjee's opposition to Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, accusing her of "supporting" illegal immigration in the state.

"The election commission is doing the SIR. Names of infiltrators are being removed, and Mamata Banerjee is crying for them. Didi's time is over. People are saying bye-bye. BJP will deport every infiltrator from the country," Shah said.

To tackle the issue of infiltration, Amit Shah assured that the BJP government, if elected, will allocate the 600 acres of border land for fencing.

"We have decided that once the BJP government is formed, within 45 days, the 600 acres of land which is needed for the fencing, we will give that to the Indian government and complete the work of the fencing on the borders," he said.

Shah also promised Malda's farmers to build a cold storage in every block, which he said the Mamata Banerjee government failed to do.

"In Mamata Banerjee's rule, the cold storage was needed for the prosperity of mango farmers, but Mamata Banerjee did nothing. Form a BJP government, and we will do the work for you, making the cold storage in every Madal (block)," he said.

Polling will be held in two phases in West Bengal on April 23 and 29, and the results of the assembly polls will be announced on May 4.

West Bengal will witness a high-voltage clash between the incumbent TMC, looking for a fourth consecutive term, while the BJP is aiming to form a government after making a mark in the last polls.
