Dattatray Gade Arrested: 'I Am Hungry, Give Me Food,' Said Accused Before Arrest
Dattatray Gade, an accused in the Swargate case in Pune, was arrested from Gunat village in Shirur taluka. He had been on the run for two days after allegedly sexually assaulting a 26-year-old woman at Swargate bus stand. The police faced challenges tracking him as his mobile phone was switched off, but locals reported sightings of him in Gunat village.
Determined to capture Gade, the police launched an intensive search operation, even deploying drones, but initially failed to locate him. However, they continued their efforts, believing he would eventually emerge to seek food or water.
Around midnight, Gade visited a relative’s house and asked for food. The relatives, instead of feeding him, gave him a bottle of water and later informed the police. Acting swiftly, officers searched a nearby field and apprehended him at 1:30 a.m. "Give me something to eat, i am hungry," Gade said. "I know what I did was wrong, and I regret it. I want to surrender to the police."
The police had been actively searching for Gade since Thursday, with villagers assisting in the operation. After discovering his clothes in a shed, officers intensified their search, ultimately leading to his arrest.
