In the Kondhwa area, people put up posters and paid tribute after the news of the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The posters read “Shahad Mubarak, Rehbar. No Shia, No Sunni Every heart cries for you. Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilyahi Rajpun.” It further read, “Khuda ka shukar tere daur mein paida hokar tuje dekh liya warna humne toh bahaduro ke kisse sirf kitabo mein sunne the.” Iran has named Ayatollah Alireza Arafi as its interim Supreme Leader following the death of longtime leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in joint US–Israeli airstrikes on Tehran early Saturday. This sudden turn of events has triggered a crucial leadership transition in the Islamic Republic amid heightened regional tensions and domestic uncertainty. Arafi, a senior cleric with decades of experience within Iran’s religious and political hierarchy, assumes the role on an interim basis, emerging as a key figure responsible for steering the nation through one of the most delicate periods in its post-revolution era.

Apart from putting up posters, protests and mourning programs were held in Kondhwa and different parts of the city on March 1. Members of the Shia Muslim Community gathered in Kondhwa, Mominpura, and Camp to express their emotions after their leader died in Iran. The protestors were raising slogans against the United States. They were chanting ‘America Murdabad.’ The protests were held peacefully, and police were deployed to maintain law and order.

In Kondhwa’s Kausar Baug area, posters featuring pictures of Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu were pasted on the roads with “Insaniyat ke Dushman (Enemies of Humanity)” written on them.

Meanwhile, in a major development regarding the 84 Pune MBA students stranded in Dubai, former BJP Rajya Sabha MP Amar Shankar Sable confirmed that the Central government has devised a detailed plan to secure their safe return to India. Speaking from Pimpri-Chinchwad, Maharashtra, Sable noted that the Union government is closely monitoring the unfolding situation in the Middle East and is taking coordinated measures to repatriate the students of the Indira School of Business Studies as quickly as possible. He emphasized that the authorities are handling the matter with urgency, particularly in light of the ongoing disruptions to air travel.
