Pune’s Sinhgad Road region is set to witness a major six-hour electricity shutdown on Thursday, May 14, even as the city continues to battle scorching summer temperatures nearing 42 degrees Celsius. The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) announced that the power interruption has been scheduled for maintenance and repair activities. The outage will remain in effect from 7 am to 1 pm and is linked to work being undertaken by Mahatransco at multiple substations. The announcement has sparked concern among residents, many of whom fear severe inconvenience due to the ongoing heatwave conditions affecting Pune and surrounding localities.

Several residential and commercial pockets across Sinhgad Road are expected to remain without electricity during the scheduled maintenance period. The affected areas include Nanded City Township, Warje Tower Works, Rathi Behre locality, Bhujbal Township, Indrayani Colony, Happy Colony, Kharade Patil Society, Anandnagar, the RMD College and School vicinity, Shriram Society, and Vasudha Ishwara. In addition, electricity supply will remain suspended in Uttamnagar, Dangat Patil Nagar, Shinde Park, Kondhave Dhawade, Ramnagar, Ganpati Matha, Ahire village, Deshmukhwadi, Shivane, Khadakwasla village, Kirkatwadi, Kolewadi, Dhayari village, JP Nagar, Shivane village, Dhonde Corner, and the Arachti locality during the scheduled maintenance work.

The shutdown is also expected to affect residents living in the Damadi area, Agam Mandir surroundings, Sai Mystic View, KB Developers locality, Amit Blossomfield Society, Ambegaon, Jambhulwadi Road, Dallenagar, Sunbright School area, Lipane Vasti, the Jambhulwadi Lake region, Athensia Royal Society, and Takshashila Society. Citizens have voiced dissatisfaction over the timing of the maintenance work, arguing that extended power cuts during intense summer conditions would severely impact daily life. Residents said households currently rely heavily on fans, air conditioners, coolers, and water pumps to cope with the extreme heat. Many also questioned the planning and scheduling of such large-scale maintenance activities amid harsh weather conditions.
