Pune has been ranked as the fourth slowest city in the world for vehicular traffic in the 2024 TomTom Traffic Index. The annual report from the Dutch location technology firm highlights Pune's worsening traffic congestion, with the city trailing only Barranquilla, Kolkata, and Bengaluru.

According to the report, the average time to travel 10 kilometers in Pune is now 33 minutes and 22 seconds, a 60-second increase from the previous year. Barranquilla leads the global traffic congestion list with an average travel time of 36 minutes and 6 seconds. Kolkata follows with a travel time of 34 minutes and 33 seconds.

Other cities like London, Dublin, Milan, Lima, and Toronto also report slower average speeds than Bengaluru, underscoring the global issue of urban traffic congestion.

Pune’s congestion level stands at 34 percent, meaning commuters lose about 108 hours annually during rush hours. Despite this, the city’s travel time has improved by one minute compared to 2023.
