Swargate Rape Case: Pune Court Extends Accused Dattatray Gade’s Judicial Custody Till April 8
Pune, Maharashtra (March 27, 2025): A court in Pune has extended the judicial custody of Dattatray Gade, the accused in the Swargate rape case, until April 8. Judicial Magistrate First Class Amol Shinde issued the order. Gade will remain lodged at Yerwada Jail. Police are preparing to file a chargesheet against the accused within the next week.
Incident Details and Court Proceedings
The incident took place on February 25 at the Swargate bus depot, where Gade, 36, allegedly raped a young woman inside a Shivshahi bus. A case was registered against him at Swargate police station. The court had earlier remanded him to judicial custody until March 26.

As his custody period ended, Gade was presented before the court through video conferencing from Yerwada Jail. The judge asked him if he had any complaints against the police, to which he replied that he had none.
With the court’s permission, Gade’s lawyer, Advocate Wajed Khan-Bidkar, will visit him in jail to discuss legal proceedings. Advocate Shriya Awale represented the victim in court.
Investigation and DNA Report Awaited
The DNA test report in the case is still pending. Police expect to receive it within a week. Once the report is available, they will file a chargesheet.
Police have also submitted a proposal to appoint a special public prosecutor to represent the prosecution in the case.
