Monalisa Bhosle, the 18-year-old internet sensation popularly known as the “Kumbh Mela girl,” tied the knot with her boyfriend, Farman Khan, in an interfaith ceremony on March 11. The wedding was held at the Arumanoor Sri Nainaar Deva Temple near Thiruvananthapuram. According to reports, Monalisa, a native of Indore, met Farman, who is from Maharashtra, through Facebook about six months ago. Their relationship reportedly faced strong opposition from Monalisa’s father, Jai Singh Bhosle, as the couple belonged to different religious communities. It was also alleged that he attempted to compel her into marrying a distant relative, leading to tensions within the family over her decision.

During this period, Monalisa had travelled to Poovar for the shooting of her debut Malayalam film Nagamma. Reports say her father traced her location and arrived there in an attempt to take her back home against her will. Following the confrontation, Monalisa and Farman approached the Thampanoor Police Station seeking protection. After she lodged a formal complaint, police summoned her father for questioning. Officers informed the family that since Monalisa is legally an adult at 18, she has the right to decide where and with whom she wishes to live. After completing the procedures at the station, she left with Farman.

Soon after leaving the police station, the couple proceeded to solemnise their marriage at the temple. The ceremony drew attention as several prominent leaders from Kerala attended the event to express their support. Among them were V. Sivankutty, who described the occasion as “the real Kerala story,” as well as M. V. Govindan and A. A. Rahim. Their presence was widely seen as a gesture backing the couple’s decision to marry despite opposition. The ceremony remained simple yet symbolic, highlighting the couple’s determination to continue their relationship.

For the wedding, Monalisa wore a bright red saree complemented with sindoor, while Farman dressed in a traditional white shirt and mundu, reflecting Kerala’s customary attire. Monalisa first gained nationwide attention during the Mahakumbh Mela 2025 in Prayagraj when a video of her selling rudraksha beads and garlands went viral online. Her distinctive amber eyes and cheerful smile quickly captivated viewers, earning her the nickname “Mona Lisa.” The clip spread widely across social media platforms, turning her into an overnight sensation and bringing her unexpected popularity across the country.

Following her viral fame, Monalisa began receiving opportunities in the entertainment industry. She is preparing to make her Malayalam cinema debut with director P. Binu Varghese’s film Nagamma, in which she will appear alongside actor Kailash. Apart from this project, she is also set to step into Bollywood with Sanoj Mishra’s upcoming movie The Diary of Manipur.
