Thane Man Arrested for Murder of Cab Driver, Body Recovered from Malshej Ghat
Police have arrested a man from Maharashtra’s Thane district in connection with the suspected murder of a driver-partner associated with a ride-hailing platform, officials said on Sunday. The victim, Nasir Ahmed, had been reported missing by his family earlier this week. The investigation took a crucial turn when his car was discovered abandoned in the Govili forest area along the Kalyan–Murbad road in Thane district. Police said the vehicle contained significant bloodstains, raising suspicions of foul play.
During the probe, authorities traced Ahmed’s body to Malshej Ghat in Pune district, where it was recovered on Saturday. Based on leads gathered during the investigation, police apprehended a resident of Titwala in Thane district for his suspected involvement in the crime. Deputy Superintendent of Police Anil Lad said the arrested individual is believed to be the primary suspect. “We are also investigating whether more people were involved in the crime. The exact motive behind the murder is still being determined,” he said.
Officials added that forensic teams are examining evidence collected from the victim’s car. Police are also awaiting the post-mortem report, which is expected to provide further details about the circumstances and cause of Ahmed’s death.
