Yogesh GoleAurangabad, July 9: In a welcome development, the government Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Aurangabad will receive an aid of Rs 2.22 crore under the Skill Strengthening for Industrial Value Enhancement (STRIVE), a World Bank-assisted, Ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship, Government of India project. As the plan aims at improving the relevance and efficiency of skills training provided through (ITIs) and apprenticeships, it calls for industry-institute interaction. The government ITI has tied up with local Marathwada Auto Cluster (MAC) for its implementation. Of the project amount, Rs 88 lakh is likely to be released within 15 days.Speaking to Lokmat Times, ITI principal Abhijeet Alte said, “Currently, we teach 29 trades through 79 units and have intake capacity of 1172. Under the STRIVE we are planning to enhance the intake capacity by 150 by introducing new courses. We will also start five short-term courses (400 hours training that can be imparted in 3 or 6 months) with capacity of 30 students each (to be run twice a year), adding 300 more seats.’’(See boxes for details)As per the mandate of the scheme, an 11-member Institute Management Committee (IMC) with MAC director Ashish Garde as chairman and principal Alte as the secretary has been formed. The IMC,which has representatives from industry and academia, will oversee implementation of the project and ensure training programmes relevant to the need of the local industries.As per the norms, 40 per cent funds will be released in the first phase and the remaining after meeting Key Performance Indicators (KPI). Alte said, “Four KPIs - increasing total students enrolment, enhancing female students number, increasing the number of pass-outs and ensuring at least 15 days of ‘on the job’ training to students - have been set for us.’’Reacting on the scheme, IMC chairman Garde said, “Generally, it takes a long while to effect changes in syllabus or redesign ITI courses as it’s a national process. However, the STRIVE gives flexibility and freedom to make desirable changes.
