Navi Mumbai: In a significant move toward e-governance, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is rapidly transforming its service delivery system by embracing full-scale digitalization. Under the proactive leadership of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde, residents can now access essential civic services—such as birth and death certificates, marriage registrations, property transfers, and more—online, without stepping into a municipal office.This digital upgrade aligns with the Maharashtra government's 100-day, seven-point action plan, focusing on transparency, speed, and citizen convenience.Bringing Government Services to the Living RoomDr. Shinde has ensured that all major services provided by NMMC are made digital and user-friendly. Citizens can now apply for certificates, licenses, and no-objection clearances directly from their homes, reducing paperwork and long queues. Inspired by the passport application process, the Commissioner has instructed departments to adopt a similar model—where users upload documents online and receive appointments or approvals via SMS.Modernizing Systems, Improving AccessDuring his visit to the Koparkhairane Ward Office, Dr. Shinde reviewed cleanliness, office management, and the efficiency of citizen service centers. He directed improvements such as additional seating outside facilitation centers and better document displays on each floor.He also assessed the birth and death registration system, recommending enhancements to make it even more accessible through the existing digital platform.Faster Approvals, Transparent ProcessesThe NMMC is also reforming the approval systems for construction debris disposal and public ground usage. Dr. Shinde has mandated that all such applications go digital and that the list of required documents be prominently displayed at multiple points in municipal buildings.Further, all certificate issuance activities will be logged systematically in official registers and routinely monitored by senior officers.Property and Health Services Also Get a BoostInstructions have been given to simplify and digitize the property tax transfer and valuation processes. The Commissioner also emphasized the importance of maintaining detailed records of all private institutions—schools, colleges, hospitals, and NGOs—within each ward.At the Koparkhairane Maternity and Child Hospital, he directed immediate action to widen entry gates and remove barriers, ensuring smoother patient access. He urged officials to expedite the ongoing infrastructure work.Digital First, Citizen FirstThanks to this ambitious initiative, NMMC offices are witnessing a transformation in both appearance and efficiency.
