A disturbing case of animal cruelty came to light in Mumbai’s Kandivali East, where police arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly sexually assaulting a female dog. According to a Times of India report, the action followed a complaint filed by a local social worker. The woman noticed an unusual gathering near a drain in the Lokhandwala Complex area while returning home from a relative’s house. Sensing something was wrong, she stopped to investigate. Upon reaching the spot, she was shocked to see the accused inside the drain alongside a female dog that was visibly distressed and crying in pain. The incident reportedly occurred on February 1.As per details mentioned in the first information report, the animal had suffered serious injuries to her private parts. Deeply disturbed by the condition of the dog, the social worker immediately arranged for medical help. She rescued the injured animal from the spot and rushed her to the Parel Animal Hospital for urgent treatment. Veterinarians at the hospital examined the dog and provided necessary medical care. The timely intervention ensured the animal received immediate attention, while the medical team carefully documented the nature of the injuries for further legal procedures.Doctors at Parel Animal Hospital later confirmed that the dog had been subjected to sexual assault, the report stated. Following this confirmation, the social worker approached the Samta Nagar Police Station and lodged a formal complaint. Acting swiftly, the police identified and arrested the accused, Sanjay Gaud. He was booked under relevant sections of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act as well as provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police officials said further investigation is underway to complete legal formalities and ensure strict action in the case.
