Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:
The Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) will be implementing a 30-hour water supply shutdown starting Thursday, March 20. During this shutdown, repairs will be carried out on a 1400mm diameter water pipeline under the Railway Station flyover, along with other small and large works at the Nakshatrawadi water supply centre. As a result, the city will not receive water supply for two days, said the CSMC executive engineer K M Phalak.
Shutdown to repair 1400 mm pipeline
The civic body had planned to implement the shutdown before the summer, but due to occasional technical faults, the city's water supply had been disrupted. Last week, a new water supply pipeline with an 1100mm diameter was laid near Tirupati Society under the Railway Station flyover as part of a new water supply scheme project. During this work, the company's staff accidentally hit the municipal corporation's 1400mm diameter pipeline, causing a slight leakage. Upon noticing the leakage, the company's employees quickly fled the site. Hence civic officials inspected the situation two days ago and decided to take the shutdown for necessary repairs.
Water supply shut down at 11 am
On Thursday, the city's water supply from Jayakwadi Dam will be shut off at 11 am. Immediately after that, repair work will begin under the Railway Station flyover. Besides, work will also be carried out on the master balancing reservoir (MBR) at the hilltop near Nakshatrawadi. Apart from this, small and large leakages, along with repairs by the electricity department, at Pharola, Jayakwadi, and other locations will also be done.
Repairs will continue until Friday evening
The repair work will continue until Friday evening. After that, the process of bringing water from Jayakwadi to the city will resume. By Friday night, all the water reservoirs will be filled, and the work of supplying water to the city will begin on Saturday morning, said Phalak.
Water supply stages delayed by two days
The areas that were scheduled to receive water on Thursday and Friday will now get water directly on Saturday. All subsequent water supply stages will be postponed by two days. Therefore, the citizens should use water judiciously, appealed the municipal corporation to the citizens.
