Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

In a bizarre accident, tourists were suddenly attacked by bees in Cave Number 16 (also called as Kailasa Temple), on Monday at around 12.30 pm. A 79-year-old tourist from London was stung more than 50 times on the face by the bees. He was treated at the Government Medical College Hospital (GMCH).

In recent days, there have been frequent bee attacks in the Ellora and Ajanta Caves, raising concerns about the safety of tourists.

The name of the foreign tourist is Jallard Jeffrey Richard (London) and was treated in the GMCH’s Department of Geriatrics ward. The bees stung him on his face, neck, and hands in multiple places, causing him severe pain. Along with the pain, he also experienced nausea and mild diarrhoea. Following this, he was immediately admitted to the hospital for treatment. Upon admission, his blood pressure had dropped. After receiving primary treatment in the Emergency Ward, his blood pressure stabilised. He was then shifted to the Geriatrics Ward for further observation. Doctors reported that his condition improved after treatment.

Tourists should not be troubled

The president of Aurangabad Tourism Development Foundation (ATDF) Jaswant Singh said,” There are beehives in the Ellora and Ajanta Caves. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) should take precautions and implement necessary measures in this regard. Tourists should not face any kind of inconvenience or trouble.”

Condition stable

GMCH’s medical superintendent, Dr Suresh Harbade confirmed that the 79-year-old tourist from England was attacked by bees at Ellora Caves. “He has been treated, and his condition is now stable,” he said.
