The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) received a good response to its online survey conducted as a part of Streets for People''s Challenge. Of the total respondents, 94 per cent citizens stressed on the need for wide roads (free from encroachments) and sitting arrangements on the side of roads. Besides, 83 pc citizens underlined that the roads should be safe for the children.
It may be noted that the AMC will be undertaking works to develop greeneries, beautify roads, construct dedicated footpaths etc. under the guidance of the administrator A K Pandey. Prior to it, the civic body conducted an online survey to know the people''s desire and expectations from the AMC. A total of 286 citizens participated in the online survey.
The assistant project manager (ASCDCL) and head of the Streets for People''s Challenge, Sneha Mohan Nair said, " The survey pinpoints the citizens'' expect the city roads to be facelifted. They expressed on various topics including on the safety of roads, pedestrians, traffic obstruction on roads etc. The major response to the survey was from citizens from the age of 19 years to 35 years. The second responding group was in the age group of 36 years to 50 years.
Of the total respondents, 78 per cent desired to have a park or open space at a distance of 5-10 minutes away from their homes for walking. Besides 70 pc citizens voted on utilising footpaths to park the vehicles, while 30 pc stated to have separate space for parking on the roads.
Meanwhile, the citizens can participate in the survey in a large number and register their opinion or suggestions as the deadline has been extended by one week, it is learnt.
