Aurangabad, Dec 9:
The cleanliness fortnight currently being carried out by the Aurangabad Cantonment Board (ACB) in the cantonment area has proved of no use as the main roads in the area are littered with garbage.
A special cleaning fortnight is being implemented by the ACB from December 1 to 15. The officials had urged the residents to cooperate to make the cantonment clean, beautiful and healthy. The ACB had issued a set of guidelines for the residents that said that the citizens should throw wet and dry garbage in different bins or in the garbage collection vehicle, avoid open defecation, construction materials should not be placed on the road, also use of plastic bags was banned in the ACBs jurisdiction. Strict action would be taken against people not wearing masks and residents should plant trees in the open space and homes. However, citizens were seen floating the norms. The ACB officials have still not taken a single action against the offenders.
Heaps of garbage on the main roads
Despite the cleanliness campaign, heaps of garbage are lying on the main and internal roads in the cantonment, due to the diligence of the staff. Heaps of garbage are visible near the State Bank of India road, Nehru Chowk and Milind Chowk. The residents alleged that the board officials are only pretending to observe the fortnight.
Lack of sanitation workers
The ACB has several posts lying vacant since past many years. The board also lacks enough sanitation workers to collect garbage from every area. The limited workforce results in hampering of sanitation services in the area.
