Aurangabad, Dec 31:

City Chowk police have detained four persons on the charge of attempting to usurp a plot of an old lady by preparing a bogus general power of attorney (GPA) during the last week. The incident came to light due to alertness of acting joint sub-registrar Kavita Kadam.

Kadam said, " The attempt to usurp land through preparing bogus GPA was detected during last week. It so happened that an older woman from Nanded owns a plot on Beed Bypass Road. A young lady enclosed an Aadhar card with the land documents claiming that she is an unmarried daughter of the aged lady. Hence she should be registered as the GPA-holder. The name of applicant woman, age and Aadhar Card raised suspicion. I directed the applicant to remain present in person, but she did not appear before me. In the meantime, the officials found the Aadhar Card is bogus as the QR Code was not getting scanned. The persons disappeared from the office, leaving their GPA claim. Based on these papers, the police complaint was made.

Many citizens from the city and other parts of the region had invested in plots, marked on the city''s outskirts, during 1990 and 2000. The Aadhar link server in the office of registry and stamp duty is not working. Hence, the land mafia takes advantage and prepares bogus GPA papers of the real investors in their absence and submits bogus identity proofs. Before the real-owner of plot understands the crime, he found possession of the third person on his plot, it is learnt.
