Aurangabad, Dec 1:
The key authorities and the heads of various sections at Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) today reported on duty on their bicycles.
Earlier, being the first working day of the month, the AMC administrator and chief executive officer (CEO) of Aurangabad
Smart City Development Corporation Limited (ASCDCL) Astik Kumar Pandey, on Monday, had appealed to the authorities to reach the office on bicycles. The campaign is dubbed as ''Work through Cycle''.
Responding to the appeal, the municipal officer of health (MoH) Dr Neeta Padalkar, head of the Soildwaste Management (SWM) Cell Nandkishore Bhombe, head of the Electrical section A B Deshmukh and others reported on their bicycles.
The Smart City Mission encourages the usage of bicycles to develop a pollution-free environment in the city. Sensing importance, the administrator and the ASCDCL CEO Pandey took the initiative to achieve the expected goals. Earlier, the AMC had organised a bicycle rally in the city with the participation of citizens. The rally was dubbed as Cycles4Change. Later on, to promote bicycle riding culture, the AMC started to construct cycle tracks on important roads in the city. It is hoped that the increase in bicycle usage will reduce the burden of fuel consumption and help AMC in developing pollution-free environment. Now, the civic officers were appealed to report on duties on their bicycles on the first working day of each month.
