Aurangabad, Feb 4:

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is not ready to handover hostels to Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (Bamu).

The AMC took hostels of the university to accommodate Novel coronavirus patients while students staying in the hostels were asked to leave it. Not a single patient was kept in the hostel during the last three months.

The State Government granted permission to reopen the universities and colleges from February 15.

The instructions for admissions in hostels were not issued. The university wants to clean and spray disinfectant in hostels as part of preparations. So, Bamu did correspondence with the Civic body but received no response from the latter.

The Corporation has taken two hostels for quarantine of suspects and one for doctors residence. There are 14 hostels on the campus, where 1300 boys and girls can be accommodated.

Of them, two hostels were reopened for research students (one for boys and another for girls). Since one student was housed in one room, students demand to start some more hostels.

Pro-vice-chancellor Dr Shyam Shirsath said that they received orders to restart the university and colleges. He said that the university would issue guidelines for the colleges. The guidelines will include cleaning and electrical safety audit of classrooms and hostels.
