Aurangabad, April 22:

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) administrator A K Pandey today hinted at imposing a fine of Rs 500 upon citizens, moving in the city, without taking the Covid-19 vaccine. They would have to produce the certificate of vaccination.

" The proposal is under consideration. The vaccination is important to prevent the spreading of Coronavirus. We have started vaccination centers in all the 115 wards. Hence, the citizens of age 45 years and above should take the vaccine by April 30," said Pandey.

The population of Aurangabad is around 15 lakh and 10 percent of citizens had taken the jab of vaccine, so far. Presently, the drive for citizens (above 45 years of age) is receiving good response. The AMC has a target of vaccinating 5 lakh citizens till June. Meanwhile, the health administration is on its toes to implement the drive to administer the vaccine to citizens of age 18 years and above from May 1. Presently, there is a rush of Covid patients from urban as well as rural sector in the city for the treatment. Hence, their relatives had to run helter-skelter to arrange ventilators, ICU, oxygen beds, etc, said Pandey.

The civic chief added, " A total of 1000-1200 patients were detected from the city in March. The figure has reduced to 600-700 patients, this month. Vaccination is the main reason for the drop in detection of patients. So far, 1.90 lakh citizens had taken the vaccine. Persons above 45 years of age should also get vaccinated. Besides, the proposal of imposing a fine of Rs 500 is under consideration."
