Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Defaulters who assault Mahavitaran employees while resisting power disconnection are now facing legal action. In the past week, four cases have been registered against individuals who abused and attacked Mahavitaran engineers and staff. The police have arrested the accused, and under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), they could face imprisonment ranging from two to ten years.

Mahavitaran has launched a campaign to recover pending electricity bills, cutting power to defaulters in the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar division. However, some consumers have turned violent, physically assaulting employees and vandalizing offices. The Mahavitaran management has taken serious note of these incidents, ensuring swift legal action and following up at higher levels to protect its workforce. With the company facing a financial crisis due to unpaid bills, engineers and officers are under pressure to recover dues. But instead of clearing their outstanding amounts, some defaulters have resorted to intimidation and violence. Officials have warned that obstructing government work, assaulting employees, or damaging property are criminal offenses that will not be tolerated.

Police protection for Mahavitaran staff

To prevent further attacks, Mahavitaran’s Chief Engineer Pawan Kumar Kachhot has directed all regional officers in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar to seek police assistance when handling disconnections. The move aims to ensure the safety of employees and maintain law and order while executing government-mandated duties.
