Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

The union Minister of State for Finance, Dr Bhagwat Karad, claimed,“The laying of a 900 mm size pipeline to transport an adequate quantity of water till the city is underway. The laying work is expected to be completed by January or February. Accordingly, the city will be able to receive 80 MLD of additional quantity of water from March 1. Hence the citizens will be able to get water in their taps on the gap of two days (meaning they will get in taps on the third day).”

Karad reviewed the status of the new water supply scheme on Monday. While addressing the newsmen, he said,“ Former chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had sanctioned the new water supply scheme of valuing Rs 1780 crore. However, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government did not implement the tender process. As a result, the city is receiving water one and a half years late. Besides, the expense of the scheme also escalated by Rs 1,000 crore.”

Karad alleged that the parallel water supply scheme got defunct due to a former MP.

“After our government came into power. The new water supply scheme was included in the Central Government’s AMRUT Scheme. The fund of Rs 750 crore was also sanctioned. I am reviewing the new scheme frequently. It will be completed by December 2024. Meanwhile, the digging of a 20 metres long trench till the Source Well is underway in Jayakwadi Dam. This work will also be completed in December and then the necessary concrete work will be commenced. The work of the pump houses will also be started from March 2024,” he said.
