Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

A shocking crime has surfaced in Ghardon, where a 36-year-old married woman was brutally attacked with a knife after an attempted rape.

On March 2, Abhishek Tatyarao Navpute (19), a resident of Ghardon, assaulted a woman working in a field. When she resisted and screamed for help, he stabbed her multiple times on the face, stomach, neck, hands, and head before fleeing. She is in critical condition and receiving treatment at a private hospital. Fifteen days before this attack, Abhishek had attempted to take nude photos of a child in the village. The matter was reported to his family, but within two weeks, he committed this brutal crime. On Monday, Chikalthana police registered a case. PI Ravikiran Darwade, PSI Satish Pandit and officers Vikram Jadhav, Sachin Ratnaparkhe, and Ikhare arrested him within 24 hours.

Deceptive image, public outrage

Abhishek, a failed 12th-grade student, worked in agriculture and was considered a religious and simple man in the village. The attack has enraged locals. On Thursday, Pratibha Jagtap and members of Shiv Sena’s women’s wing submitted a memorandum to Superintendent of Police Dr Vinay kumar Rathod, demanding strict action. They called for public execution, condemning such crimes as a disgrace to society.

POCSO charges to be added

Fifteen days before the attack, Abhishek had taken photos of a child playing outside a house in the village. When the child informed his family, they strongly reprimanded him, and his own family was also made aware of his actions. However, this did not deter him. The investigation team has seized his mobile phone, which will be examined by cyber police and forensic experts in the presence of witnesses. Authorities have confirmed that additional charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act will be filed against him.
