Aurangabad, Feb 17

Corona cases are once again on the rise almost daily, and the situation is similar across the state. This is due to the negligence of the citizens, increased mobility, travel as well as climate change. However, it cannot be said that the second wave of covid has come at the moment, said the experts. Of course, it will be clear in the next one to two weeks whether this is the second wave or a new strain of the corona, experts say.

The number of new victims in Aurangabad district crossed 100 and it is feared that it will soon increase further. In addition, the number of active patients has increased to 407. In the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) alone, 68 corona patients are being treated and 28 are normal, but more than that, 38 patients are in critical condition. As a result, the number of critically ill patients in all private hospitals, including the GMCH, is on the rise. It is also being questioned whether the fears of the second wave expressed a few months ago are true because of the overall situation.

Against this background, district surgeon Dr Sundar Kulkarni said, “Despite the fact that the numbers are increasing, it cannot be called another wave right now. Basically, the observance of the three safety rules including wearing masks, using sanitizers and maintaining physical distancing are being neglected. Recently, the number of weddings has increased and in many places, crowds of one and a half thousand people could be easily seen. Most of them were not wearing masks and not following physical distancing due to overcrowding.

Tests number same as before

Recently, the number of tests has not increased or decreased, said municipal health officer Dr Neeta Padalkar. There are still 800 to 900 tests being done everyday. However, the number of positive cases in the tests is now increasing. Increased movement of citizens, travel and climate change, as well as laxity in observance of the three steps safety, can also be cited as reasons behind the increasing cases. Still, it is doubtful whether this will be the second wave.

Picture will be clear in two weeks

Large number of people are traveling for tourism and personal work. Schools have also started. Again the atmosphere suddenly changed. That is why the number of patients is most likely to have increased. Whether this is the second wave will be known in two weeks, said the experts.
