Court orders to take decision on EWS reservation to Maratha community

Aurangabad, Nov 6:

Justice S V Gangapurwala and Justice R G Avchat of the Aurangabad bench of Bombay High Court on Friday ordered the state government to decide whether to give the benefit of 10 per cent reservation to the Maratha community from the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) within four days. The court also permitted the petitioner to appeal before the vacation bench if the government does not take a decision within the stipulated time.

Petitioners Vedangi Sudhakar Kapre, Devyani Thombre and Kalyani Devanand Vyavahare from Aurangabad have applied for medical admission from economically backward category. However, the Maratha community will not be able to avail the benefit of reservation for the EWS for admission in government services and educational institutions in the state, the state government has instructed in a circular dated July 28, 2020. During today''s hearing, chief public prosecutor D R Kale stated that the matter has been referred to the Department of Justice for a decision on whether the Maratha community should be given the benefit of reservation for the economically backward class and whether they should be given the certificates of the EWS. After the hearing, the bench gave the order as above. Adv Vinod Patil represented the petitioner, Adv Kishore Sant oversaw work for University of Health Sciences and adv Mrigesh Narwadkar oversaw the work for CET cell.
