Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

A 37-year-old man was stabbed by a rickshaw driver in Pundaliknagar on April 6 after he asked him to slow down. In another incident at Cidco Chowk, a group of rowdy rickshaw drivers beat up a youth who was walking with his sister, injuring him without any provocation.

The accused, Ashok Khape (Hanumannagar), was arrested the same night by the Pundaliknagar police. Vivekanand Galat, a resident of Gajanan Colony, was riding towards Gajanan Maharaj Mandir Chowk when a speeding auto brushed his two-wheeler. After advising the driver to drive carefully, Galat was stabbed twice in the stomach. Local residents rushed to help and prevented a third attack. The accused fled the scene while threatening to kill Galat. The victim was seriously injured due to heavy bleeding. Police Inspector Krishna Shinde and ASI Sunil Mhaske reached the spot immediately. A case of attempted murder was filed.

Rise in auto driver-related violence

The increasing involvement of criminals and addicts in the rickshaw business is alarming. Incidents of violence and hooliganism by a section of rogue auto drivers are creating fear among citizens and affecting the reputation of other law-abiding drivers.
