Aurangabad, Oct 30:

The state government had suspended the delimitation of wards for Gram Panchayat (GPs) in March due to Covid-19. The suspension has been lifted and the work of delimitation of wards of 613 GPs in the district, which expires between March and December, has resumed. The final draft will be published on November 2, sources said.

These 613 GPs include Aurangabad 77, Phulambri 50, Paithan 84, Sillod 84, Soygaon 40, Kannad 81, Khultabad 25, Vaijapur 102 and Gangapur 70. Elections were to be held between March and April as the term of 8 GPs in the district had expired. But in the meantime, a lockdown was announced to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Considering the seriousness, the state government suspended the pre-election work of the GPs during this period. Meanwhile, the unlock started in June. However, in October the intensity of the disease subdued. With the central election commission announcing the Bihar assembly elections, preparations for various pending elections in the state have also gained momentum. Therefore, the suspension of the process of delimitation and reservation of the wards of the GPs has also been lifted.
