Aurangabad, July 21:

A doctor from the city was cheated of Rs 3 lakh after he downloaded the link provided by the cyber fraudsters. He received a message on the phone that his sim card will be deactivated soon, and he will have to pay Rs 10 as fees online to update his KYC information on the team viewer quick support link.

Head of the Community Medicine department of the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Dr Mohan Doibale received the message on his phone that his phone will be deactivated. He will have to download the given link.

When he downloaded this link, Rs 99,999 were deducted from his bank account for times, amounting to Rs 3 lakh within a few minutes. Dr Doibale, a senior doctor at GMCH, lodged a complaint at the Jawaharnagar police station on Tuesday in this regard. According to the complaint, he received a message from West Bengal on July 6 stating that his sim card will be deactivated and he will have to update his KYC information on the link given below. He downloaded the link, updated the information, and paid Rs 10 online.

However, Rs 3 lakh was deducted from the State Bank of India (SBI) Vishwabharti Colony branch account. When he received the messages of withdrawal, he inquired about it in the bank. He came to know that the money was transferred to West Bengal. After 12 days of the incident, he lodged a complaint at the Jawaharnagar police station while PI Santosh Patil is further investigating the case.
