India Post offers franchises to boost Speed Post and Parcel services

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

Through authorised franchises of India Post, a new ‘Bulk Speed Post and Parcel Booking Service’ has been launched in the city. The initiative aims to provide citizens with faster, reliable and convenient parcel services, marking a boost under the ‘Franchise Scheme 2.0’.

Responding to the growing demand driven by e-commerce and parcel services, India Post has rolled out ‘Franchise Scheme 2.0’ to make postal services across the country more efficient, technology-driven and customer-centric. Under the scheme, services such as Speed Post, Parcel Booking, International EMS, tracked package services, along with pickup and delivery, will be made available through franchises.

A key feature of the scheme is the provision of doorstep parcel pickup for citizens, while businesses will benefit from streamlined bulk booking facilities. The scheme is open to individuals as well as companies, organisations and NGOs. Individual applicants must have at least a Class 12 qualification, basic computer knowledge and proficiency in the local language. For companies, financial eligibility, GST registration and prior experience in logistics will be given preference. The scheme incorporates advanced APT 2.0 technology, with all transactions to be conducted via a mobile app and online portal. This is expected to enhance transparency and enable real-time tracking, digital payments and faster service for customers.

Franchisees will receive performance-based commissions, with separate rates defined for Speed Post, parcel booking and delivery. Provisions have also been made to impose penalties in case of non-compliance with service standards.

According to senior postmaster (head post office) Suresh Bansode, “ The scheme is expected to generate employment opportunities in both rural and urban areas. It is also seen as a significant step towards strengthening the parcel distribution network and positioning India Post more competitively in the courier and logistics sector.”
