Aurangabad, Jan 7: “The technique of journalism has changed in today’s digital world. But, Media should not forget its social commitment,” said Dr Pramod Yeole, vice-chancellor of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (Bamu).

He was speaking in an online programme organised jointly by Journalism and Mass Communication Department of Bamu and MGM Journalism University to celebrate Dardpan Din.

Veteran journalist and MP Padmashri Kumar Ketkar and senior anchor from a TV channel Prashanna Joshi delivered their lectures. MGM University VC Dr Sudhir Gavhane, Department head Dr Dinkar Mane and Principal Dr Rekha Shelke attended the programme.

He said Journalists had played an important role in the country’s freedom struggle. “James Augustus Hicky brought out the first newspaper ‘Bengal Gazette’ in 1780 while Balshashtri Jambhekar started ‘Darpan’ on January 6, 1832 and laid the foundation of Marathi journalism,” he said.

VC Dr Yeole said that still, common men have trust in print media, so, it should be maintained. MP Kumar Ketkar said that there is pressure on media because of technology and political power. Prasanna Joshi also guide. Dr Asha Mane conducted the proceedings while Vivek Rathod proposed a vote of thanks.
