Aurangabad, Feb 23:

The Management Council members of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (Bamu) rejected 90 per cent of proposals for new colleges in Tuesday’s meeting.

It may be noted that the university invited proposals for new colleges as per its perspective plan.

A total of 246 education societies submitted their proposals for opening new colleges in Aurangabad, Beed, Jalna, and Osmanabad. Of them, 118 colleges were found fulfilling all conditions.

The proposals came up for discussions today’s MC meeting for approval before sending to the State Government.

The Dr Narendra Jadhav committee set up by the Government made the required parameters for opening new colleges. A total of 128 proposals were not found eligible for the new colleges.

So, 118 valid proposals came for the discussions in the MC meeting. Nearly 90 per cent of them were rejected.

According to sources, the reason for rejection was that many proposals were for opening new traditional course colleges.

In contrast, many seats are vacant in existing colleges which offer traditional courses.

The rejected proposals were belonging to sitting MLAs, politicians and established education trusts.

Pro-vice-chancellor Dr Shyam Shirsath chaired the meeting.

Dr Rajesh Karpe, Dr Fulchand Salampure, Sanjay Nimablkar and others were present.
