Aurangabad, July 6:

The success of any police officer depends upon the network of informers he maintains to bust a racket or get a clue in criminal activity. However, after the action against a sharp-edged weapon seller on Sunday, it pushes to think whether the city police's network of informers is active or not? The youth from Sanjaynagar-Baijipura was involved in purchasing and selling swords and other weapons online since February, but the police could not? got a wind of his illegal activity for the past five months.

Aurangabad is one of the important divisional headquarter in the state and it is categorised as a sensitive city. Many riots had taken place in the name of religion in the past. Nowadays, it is noticed that the dependency on police has increased upon the technology. As a result, the investigation of cases is getting delayed. This system seemed to have proving benefit to the youths like Erfan Khan alias Danish Khan (from Baijipura) who started purchasing the swords online. Initially, he would give them on rent to cut the cake or revelers for dancing in the marriage ceremony. Later on, the citizens would insist to sell the weapons to them. This is how the business of weapons came into existence. From February to June 3, Erfan Khan purchased 65 sharp-edged weapons like swords, daggers, etc online and succeeded in selling 25-30 of them. The remaining weapons were also available for selling.

Surprisingly, the city police were unaware of his confidential activity in the past five months. There is a crime branch in the city and in each police station has a crime detention branch. Moreover, Danish was operating the business in the jurisdiction of Jinsi police station and they came to know after the Pundaliknagar police station took action.

The assistant commissioner of police (crime branch) Ravindra Salokhe said, " It would be unjust to tell that the network of informers is not active as no outside agency had visited the city and took the action. The city police have busted the business of online purchase and selling of sharp-edged weapons. The city police took action because of its active network of informers only."
