Aurangabad, Dec 12:

Former president of Akhil Bhartiya Veershaiv Sahitya Sammelan and renowned scholar of Veershaiv literature Shantitirth Sangayya Swami Chakurkar passed away city

in the wee hours on Saturday.

He was 77. Swami Chakurkar was very popular as headmaster among students of Renuka Vidyalaya at Bardapure in Ambejogai tehsil of Beed. He has a collection of manuscripts, Pothis, books, Ovis, Abhangas, Pand and Bharud from Veershaiv literature.

He was president of fourth Veershaiv Sahitya Sammelan held in Varanasi in February this year.

Swami was honoured with Dr Chandrashekhar Kapale Sahitya award in the Sammelan.

Last rites will be performed on his body at Chakur in Latur district on December 13.
